about

Released on the 70th birthday of the late, GREAT Albert T. Rodriguez.

Music for my father. Teacher. Mentor. Friend.

It only seemed right to release a song where I, his youngest son, played every instrument I could for him. He loved to hear me play drums and the resonator guitar, so I wrote him a little ditty that helped me to release some emotions regarding him not physically being around anymore but always here in my heart and as a part of my character.
He was a funny, loving, hardworking man that told it like it was. I am grateful for all he did for my family and neighborhood and all that he left behind for us.

Not a day goes by where I don't think of him. Every big decision, every time I walk in our studio, every time I hammer in a nail, and every time I smell BBQ. I still feel him here and I know his energy is always with us.

I hope this song brings comfort to all who listen just as it did for me creating it. Tell those closest you love them every chance you get. I am fortunate enough to have had "I love you, Pops" be the last thing I said to him on Father's Day 2018, hours before he passed. Thanks for everything dad. I will not let you down.

Like he would always say in his Texas accent when he was getting off the phone, we'll talk at you later.

lyrics

Not a man of many words
But all that you said I heard
(said) follow your dreams son
even if its picking cans off the curb
learn from your brother's mistakes
and don't make the one's I've made
You can try, you can fail, but
Giving up is never okay

Just like the sun disappears in the night but it never really goes away
& the way the tides rise around daylight just to flow back into the bay
Things change, things die, and if you wanna set 'em right
theres nothing wrong with a little labor
So until we meet again, my mentor, my friend, I just wanna say thanks &
We'll Talk at you Later

Didn't need a hammer to build
Gave me humor as a shield
He wouldn't give up until they buried him
with his grill
Taught everything he knew to three young men
and now you and your brothers are fishing again
the SPIRIT in the sky
has gained three of a kind

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while, ha.
